Not Alone Project
Mission: To support those victimized by domestic abuse in seeking safety through providing a Go Bag.
The name “Not Alone Project” is named so that those assisting with the project, may help another community member that has been victimized by domestic abuse, understand that they are not alone.
These people recognize that domestic abuse or violence is not isolated, but an epidemic, and one tactic that abusers enlist is isolation. Through this collaboration with the community, we would like victims to know, in some way, that they are not alone. We also recognize that leaving an abusive relationship is a process and there are many barriers that may exist for a victim. Our hope is that this Go Bag will eliminate one less barrier for a victim seeking safety, providing the victim with one more element in their safety plan.
How it works: Bags are filled with items that a victim may need in an emergency when they have made the difficult decision to leave the abusive relationship. The bags are nondescript (so the abuser doesn’t suspect anything) and can be stored anywhere that the victim has easy access to when leaving.
THE GO BAG WILL CONTAIN:
- Information on Community Resources
- A Safety Plan
- Toiletry Items
- A First Aid Kit
- File for Important Documnets
- List of suggested items to store
- Notepad and Pen
THE GO BAG MAY CONTAIN:
- Flashlight and Whistle
- 911 Phone
